Jailbreaking 1.1.4 iTouch on Windows in 1 Simple Step!
Ok. It simply doesn’t get any easier than this. I’ve gone through all the backflips (you can read about them on my blog) and have downgraded, upgraded, sidegraded and jailbroken iTouches in just about every way possible on Windows. I’ve read about the ZiPhone jailbreak and have periodically checked the status of that but on previous visits, it looked like it was a work in progress for Windows anyway. So, I tried it tonight…and it worked so quickly I wasn’t even sure it was jailbroken, but sure enough, the Installer icon is on my home page ready for me to add any apps that I might want. So here’s what you need to do…
The one simple step is running the ZiPhone software. Make sure your iTouch is restored to a non-jailbroken state with the latest version of the firmware (1.1.4). Also, make sure your iTunes software is up to date. Connect your iTouch and make sure iTunes recognizes it. If it does not, then reinstall iTunes and do whatever else you have to do to make sure your iTouch is visible to your computer. Close iTunes but leave your iTouch connected to your computer. Now, go to http://www.ziphone.org/ and click on the “Click here to download Ziphone” link. Then download the Windows version of the ZiPhone software. This is a phone named ZiPhoneWin-3.0.exe. Run this file and you will get a directory full of files similar to the following.
Now double-click on the file named “JAILBREAK IPHONE IPOD.bat”. You will see a console window on your computer and your iTouch.
After a moment, your iTouch will reboot and you will see the ZiPhone application appear on your computer screen. Click on the appropriate button to finish the jailbreak.
The whole process takes about a minute. This is the cleanest jailbreak so far. So…my advice to you is to forget everything i’ve said in the past and use the ZiPhone method. Now…i’ve got to go get my daughter’s iTouch to jailbreak that again…1.1.4 here we come!!!

i accidently clicked “DO IT ALL”
and now the words on my ipod dont leave from the screen
ive restarted the ipod with the home & power button
and everytime the lil apple leaves the words come back
they move but then stop and read
“BSD root: md0, major 1, minor 0″
and they just stroll but never leave
the screen.

Ok…you very likely have to reconfigure your network. First, go to safari and tell me if you can get to google or any other site. If not, then you need to resetup your wireless network and then the installer should work just fine.

Sisi…i wish i knew that in the beginning…you won’t be able to use the installer.app unless you have a wireless connection. Let me know how it goes once you get a wireless connection.

I used your programm to jailbreak my 8GB iTouch.It worked pretty fine until I tried to synchronise it with iTunes in order to replace a movie.The indications were showing me,that the capacity used 6,2 GB for “other” applications,allthough I had only installed two small games and the installer itself from the package.All movies and music were gone.
Shall I restore it with 1.1.4 and jailbreak again?

I would need more information to figure out why it happened. But yeah…try restoring it and jailbreaking it again. When you resync, pay close attention to your synch settings. What you described shouldn’t have happened and it doesn’t sound like it was because of lack of space.

I had my itouch since november last year and I heard about jailbreaking an ipod, yet, i’m afraid doing it so bcoz it was a gift for me by my sister. I might damage it!! But i’m actually interested. I currently have 16gb itouch 1.1.4!!
My Questions are:
*What should be my first step before jailbreaking??
(Do i need to download programs for this)
*After jailbreaking, what applications will be available
for my itouch??
At this point, I just need to know clean steps to jailbreak.

Well…you picked the right article for this. Go back to the top of this page and read the article. This will walk you through the steps for jailbreaking it. My suggestion is, go slow, make sure your have a backup of your iTouch (use iTunes and select the backup option when your iTouch is connected) and give it a shot. As for the apps…there are quite a few, do some google searches and you will find plenty. One cool app most people seem to like is PocketGuitar. Another feature is the ability to skin your iTouch. As for damage…a lot of people skip a step or rush through the jailbreak without reading the steps carefully and end up with an iTouch that doesn’t work. I’ve done that myself quite a few times…i’ve never had a problem recovering it. For those people who get panicked, I wrote the following article. You might want to read that as well.

On second thought.. I tried installing apps with the installer.app and it always hangs when i start inputting a new source. After a few re-jailbreaking and restoring, it came to a point where it said that my Ipod cannot be restored error 1604. What’s up with that? It’s stuck in restore mode. HELP!

I used ziphone and I saw new icons..the “Installer” and
“Zibri’s Blog”!!
I have some questions..
*Do I need to connect in the net using wi-fi
when I want to Install Apps??
*Can I wiggle my icons..if ever..how??
*Under the “Installer”..can I install all of them disregarding the memory…i mean is..is it all compatible to my itouch v1.1.4??

The apps are free. For “wiggle” there is a jailbreak app that does that…I have to look it up and i’ll post it here. No, the apps are not all compatible, some of them work with earlier firmware and some of them are buggy. Try them…if they work well, keep them, if not, uninstall them.

I’ll try and post some help on Summerboard but in general, you install Summerboard and then you start installing summerboard themes. Like a lot of jailbroken apps, not all the themes work so you may end up removing some of them. After you install SB and you select a theme, if you don’t see the theme take effect (perhaps after a reboot of your iTouch) then move on to the next one. A lot of themes were built for earlier versions of firmware and no longer work. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to try it.

Oh, thanks for the help. Actually, when I followed you’re steps, I tried to use install.app and “downloaded” the apps like summerboard etc. when i looked at my “homepage”, they weren’t there. And also when I jailbroke my ipod touch 16gb, the apps weren’t wiggling. I think I used ZiPhone 3.0. Clicked on the bat file then clicked on Jailbreak button. So I looked into some tutorials in installing apps and they referred me to do “repo”‘s or something like that wherein you go to sources, then edit, then add, then as I type in the source that i wanted to add, it just FREEZES. And I’ve redone this for different sources, like 5-10 times per source. So my ipod touch started out a virgin to jailbreaking this morning, and now it’s been jailbroken like 70-100 times already. I’ve currently upgraded it to the 2.0 version, got an iTunes Store account, and downloaded the heck out of the free apps. I know, it’s a desperate plea for just modifying it. But I’m still willing to try out actually jailbreaking my ipod, before finally giving up. Thanks for all the effort though.

Tim…2.0 is a whole new territory. I’m watching out for info on jailbreaking 2.0 but at the moment, its just too new. On the flip side, there are quite a few free apps in the iTunes store.
You are right about one thing though…you can’t just jailbreak your iTouch once…!

I’ve used ZiPod to jailbreak my iPod touch and it worked.
the problem is it gets stuck a lot in different places (not a particular app or anything, just like that in Notes, Calender etc.) and I need to restart is to get it out of it.
I think it’s happenning because I had ver 1.1.5 though it still managed to jailbreak it.
what can I do about it? will a restore and jailbreaking it again work?

Note to all of you who have tried jailbreaking 1.1.5:
You can’t (or probably shouldn’t) jailbreak 1.1.5 yet…the bugs aren’t worked out. You have two choices until we get this worked out. First, you can upgrade to 1.1.5 and use the new apps in the app store, or you can stay on 1.1.4 and use the jailbreak. I’ll research this and write more on the subject at http://abwaters.com

I restored my iTouch because i had a problem
w/ it a few days..so found a solution on that
matter..so my iTouch is OK again!!
Well..but when I tried to restore it using iTunes,
it requires me to upgrade to 1.1.5 or else, it
will not continue restoring it..so I have no choice!!
So this is my question…can I downgrade it to
1.1.3 or 1.2 using ziphone or any programs??

Admin..these are my updates!!
I cant downgrade to 1.1.1 from 1.1.5 directly, so
I have to do it one step at a time…from 1.1.5 to
1.1.4 then to 1.1.3!!! I stopped at 1.1.3 because this
fw is all I need..of course, I need to have the following
fw installed in my computer before I downgrade it..
My itouch is ok now..i even have the wiggling apps!!

*go to installer then sources..
*click edit then click add…type repo.applerepo.com then
ok and it will automatically refesh..
after that..click install and find “iPhone 1.1.3 apps” and click it..then you will see two different apps, choose “all package” and install…so easy!! hahaha
Note: I dont know if this applications will run to different
firmwire…I only tried this to fw 1.1.3!!! GoodLuck!!

I don’t think you can. iBeer is an app in the new iTunes app store. You will have to upgrade to the 2.0 firmware and then buy the iBeer app. Both of those will cost money.

It will likely not break, but will “unjailbreak” your iTouch. Normally what you had to do in the past is upgrade, then re-jailbreak but the 1.1.5 jailbreak is not stable yet. I’ll post more here as soon as there is a stable jailbreak for 1.1.5.

IPT 16 GB wont sync …..yha , so as impationt as i can be some times i got all reved up and tried to JB my IPT with little exp, now i pay the price..
upgrade to 1.1.5 jumped on “Z” band wagon did the song and dance
tryd to DL a v2.0 that would not open after is was on desk top
and disabeld my Ituns so i elimanated Itunes and the “v2.0″ and re dowloded Itune but it still wont sync …and on top of it i rebooted the IPT back too factory “ROCK HARD PLACE”….

BTW, you don’t download the firmware for 2.0, you need to buy it and upgrade to it…i don’t know that you can do it any other way.

I tried to jailbreak my ipod touch and it is now stuck with the white text scrolling and says cant start: Need configuration. I’ve tried restarting it by pressing the home and hold button and it just restarts and has the white text again. my computer doesnt recognize it so i cannot restore.. what do i do??

Erica, does iTunes react at all when you plug in your iTouch? If not, then you should reinstall iTunes before you do any of the above steps. As for restore mode…do you see anything at all on the screen? Also, the comments section are not the place to do this.
